Our Mentoring Program

Why We Exist

The statistics reported in the media about today's youth are alarming.

  • Suicide and homicide are the 2nd and 3rd leading causes of death for young people ages 15 to 24 years old.
  • Each year in the U.S., approximately 750,000 women under age 20 get pregnant.
  • Teens ages 15 to 24 account for almost half of the 20 million new STD infections each year.
  • In 2012, nearly 21% of teens ages 12-19 were considered obese.
  • In a 2015 survey of 12th graders, 35.3% reported using alcohol and 23.6% reported using illicit drugs in the past month.

My Future My Choice Inc. was founded to help combat these issues in inner-city communities.

Our Mentoring Program

My Future My Choice is structured based on a team-mentoring format in which several adults work with a group of young people. Each month is organized around a theme that furthers the mission of the organization. The group meets twice a month from September through May. The first session each month is conducted as a group meeting with guest speakers and engaging activities. The second session is an outing relating to the month's theme.

 Program activities include:

  • Community service
  • Cultural programs
  • College campus visits
  • Physical fitness
  • Seminars on topics such as:

                  - Drug abuse

                  Teen violence

                  Financial freedom

                  Career counseling

                  - Self-esteem and etiquette
